Our Mission Statement:

Our goal as birth doulas is to join you in labor to support you in a safe and fulfilling birth experience. Through our knowledge, we aim to provide emotional encouragement, physical comfort measures, and the information you may need to help you make informed decisions as they appear in pregnancy and labor. When necessary, we work to provide perspectives and suggestions to you and your partner as labor progresses and use comfort techniques, such as relaxation, massage, and positioning. Joy, Lizzy, and Theresa at Baby Steps KC are a team and self-employed; we work for you.

Lizzy Goulden

I was born and raised in the Kansas City, Missouri area. Before becoming a doula, I got my Bachelor's degree in Psychology at the University of Kansas in hopes of becoming a Clinical Psychologist, but all these ambitions changed when I was expecting her first baby in 2022. I fell in love with pregnancy and birth. I felt called to become a doula and completed my birth doula workshop when my daughter was 7 months old.

Just as I felt educated, supported, and empowered in my own birth, I aim to help mothers and their families feel the same. I received my birth doula certification through the Global Education of the Midwife (GEM) and attended a postpartum doula course through Lifespan Doula.

Joy Widmer

I started my career with a focus on social work in mind where I could cater to the needs of others. After my sweet beautiful baby boy came along I found where I could provide the most help. Passionate about everything birth and babies I wanted to provide the kind of support every mother deserves.

Now knowing the amazing information out there I hope to share it with mothers and partners everywhere. Giving them a fair opportunity to make informed educated decisions and to rightfully own their birthing experience. I received my birth doula training through DONA International and currently pursuing education to become a postpartum doula through Nurturing Doula Dreams.

Theresa Stallone

I’m a work from home mom and I had my first baby in June of 2023! My husband and I have been married since 2022 and we’ve grown up in Kansas City our whole life. I’ve been passionate about birth since I saw my mother birth her last two children about 10 years ago and noticed how much women need advocates and support during pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum! Since then, I’ve been certified as a doula through GEM (Global Education of the Midwife) and have been pursuing a postpartum doula course as well.

I hope to provide my clients with all the information necessary to empower them to make informed decisions about their birth plan. If a client is open to it, I also love my Christian faith and try to implement that in areas of my work as well.
